I went into “doctor mode” and dedicated myself to opening up outdated devices that required repairs during the pandemic. I spent hours trying to fix things, sometimes succeeding, most of the time failing. I was really satisfied with the entire process, and it even led me to develop a spiritual affection for technology. I miss the days in school when technology had distinct personalities, came in candy colors, and was simple to open and fix. These days, most gadgets have uniform designs and resemble cookie cutters. But Nothing appears to have realized that things need to change and is making an effort to make amends by incorporating quirky elements into their products.
Their translucent devices have always been a favorite of mine, and the new CMF Phone 1 takes me back to the fun side of technology in a really nostalgic way. I’ve been using the smartphone for more than a week, and I can attest that it looks unique and fun. The phone’s price, elegant software interface, and semi-modular design set it apart. The CMF Phone 1 is designed to appeal to my taste for quirky, experimental content. This is my evaluation.
My first impression of the CMF Phone 1 was, “What do I make of the device?” Is it better to describe it as an oddball toy, a nostalgia machine, or something else entirely? It’s true that the CMF Phone 1 is not what you may imagine it is—a smartphone. It’s whimsical, startlingly loud, and gimmicky—like a character from a Nintendo game. I adore that. I needed some time to get used to this equipment. Nothing, damn you.

The semi-modular design of the CMF Phone 1 replaces the conventional, mass-produced smartphone design template. The phone’s body is composed of matte plastic, which fits comfortably in the hands without being overly slippery (Apple decided to take this route with the iPhone 5c, which angered some users). It’s pleasant because it feels more like a plastic toy than a piece of technology. Despite the phone having an exceptionally huge screen, the smartphone is surprisingly comfortable to hold and operate.
