Amid anti-quota protests, Indian residents in Bangladesh are advised not to travel.

Amidst a statewide walkout against the government’s job quota system, Indian nationals living in Bangladesh have been asked to stay indoors and limit their movement.

Students in Bangladesh resisted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s offer of amnesty on Thursday, pledging to carry on their statewide protests against civil service hiring practices and demanding justice for the six people who were slain during the demonstrations.

“We want to proceed with our plans for a total shutdown. “All businesses will stay closed,” Nahid Islam, the protest coordinator, told Reuters.

Ambulance services will be the only allowed mode of transportation, and only hospitals and emergency services will continue to operate.”

Since Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina won a fourth consecutive term in January in an election that the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) boycotted, the protests represent her government’s first serious challenge.
