As the situation in the Uttarakhand district worsens, an IAF chopper is called in to put out forest fires near Nainital.

DEHRADUN: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Saturday that an Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter was sent to assist in putting out the fierce forest fires in the Nainital region of Uttarakhand. When the flames extended to the High Court colony in the Pines region on Friday, the situation had become worse.

The MI-17 aircraft collected water from Bhimtal Lake using a Bambi Bucket and then sprayed it over the burning woods at Pines, Bhumiadhar, Jyolikot, Narayan Nagar, Bhawali, Ramgarh, and Mukteshwar, among other parts of the district.

Boating in Naini Lake is forbidden by the district government as a precaution. According to Chandrashekhar Joshi, the divisional forest officer of Nainital, 40 employees from Manora Range and two forest rangers have been dispatched to put out the fire.

Chief Minister Dhami gave the assurance that every attempt was being made to contain the fires and that they would be put out quickly. In order to evaluate the situation, he said that he would be meeting with forest officials in Haldwani later that day.
In a separate incident, three people were detained on Friday in Rudraprayag for allegedly trying to set woods on fire. Authorities claim that 33.34 hectares of forest land were destroyed by 31 fresh forest fire incidents that were recorded around the state on Friday.
