Officials from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) claim that the dearth of trains is the main cause for the 18.82-kilometer line's deadline extension from R.V. Road to Bommasandra.

The Yellow Line of Namma Metro in Bengaluru was supposed to open in July 2024, as per the State budget that was released in February. However, BMRCL officials have since indicated that the line would not open till the end of this year, which has angered passengers.

The absence of trains is the main justification given by representatives of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) for prolonging the completion date of the 18.82-kilometer line from R.V. Road to Bommasandra. For the BMRCL to run on the Yellow line with a 15-minute headway, seven sets of trains are required. As of right now, they have a six-coach train prototype that was made in China. The Titagarh Rail System, located close to Kolkata, will construct the remaining trains, with deliveries anticipated to start in June or July.

Additional trains are required to begin operations.

At the beginning, Yellow Line trains will run every 15 minutes, regardless of when operations start in July. It won’t be possible to reach a headway of five minutes or less until we receive eight more trains, which should arrive by the end of 2024. The main reason behind the delay in starting commercial operations, according to an official, has been the lack of trains, even after civil construction, track laying, and other work on the Yellow Line have been completed.

Travelers voice their displeasure

The move by BMRCL to once more postpone the deadline has angered commuters. The announcement by the BMRCL to extend the deadline until the end of 2024, according to Bommanahalli resident Venugopal V. K., “reflects poor planning and execution.” The launch of the line is eagerly anticipated by thousands of commuters. Why was July chosen as the deadline if additional time is needed for the line to become operational?
