Targeted by RSS, rejected by Maharashtra voters: Does Ajit Pawar have a tense future?

NEW DELHI: In the recently ended Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Modi's boasts of "abki baar, 400 paar" were piqued by the opposition, with Maharashtra being one of the pivotal states. In the end, the BJP gained nine seats in the state, which is fewer than half of the twenty-three seats it held five years prior. Regretfully, the "engineered" allies of the BJP were likewise unable to help the NDA aim.

The split NCP, now the official NCP, faces an uncertain future while the split Sena, now the legitimate Shiv Sena, did fairly well. The news agency IANS reports that the BJP is carrying out an internal investigation to determine whether it might run a solo campaign in the forthcoming assembly elections.

The leaders of the NCP have attempted to downplay the criticism by claiming that it is the RSS leader’s personal viewpoint. They assert that they will stay in partnership with the BJP. However, when PM Modi appointed his council of ministers after the elections, it became clear that the BJP had less negotiating leverage.

NCP’s assertions disregarded

Among the partners without a minister in Modi 3.0 is the NCP. The NCP was the first political party to publicly express its dissatisfaction with the distribution of portfolios during discussions about the NDA government’s outline. The suggestion for its leader Parful Patel to become minister of state with independent charge was rejected by Ajit Pawar’s party. Since Praful Patel had previously served as a Cabinet minister in the Center and would be demoted to the offered position, Pawar said that the decision was made consciously and unanimously.

Awaiting a boost from the Rajya Sabha

Ajit Pawar was marginalized following the Lok Sabha elections and now seems to be waiting for the Rajya Sabha boost to assert more influence inside the NDA. Ajit Pawar will witness an increase in the party’s total number of MPs in the Upper House with the majority of NCP MLAs supporting him. As the NCP candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections, he has already put his wife Sunetra Pawar, who had lost the Lok Sabha elections to Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule in Baramati, forward.

Ajit Pawar, the leader of the National Congress Party and the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, is in the wilderness following a dismal performance in the Lok Sabha elections. Pawar had rebelled against his uncle Sharad Pawar and left the party along with the majority of MLAs and MPs. Only one of the four Lok Sabha seats that Ajit Pawar’s NCP ran for was won. Compare this to the actions of Eknath Shinde, who broke away from Uddhav Thackeray, divided the Shiv Sena, allied himself with the BJP, and eventually rose to the position of chief minister in Maharashtra. With a higher strike rate than the BJP, Shinde’s Sena won seven of the fifteen seats it ran for.

“This will be a demotion for me as I was a Cabinet minister in the Union administration before. Patel later told reporters, “We have notified the BJP leadership, and they have already told us to just wait a few days, they will take remedial measures.”

The corruption label

Ajit Pawar’s appointment by the BJP also provided the opposition with a platform to ridicule Prime Minister Modi for his much-discussed fight against corruption. This was due to the Prime Minister and prominent BJP figures accusing Ajit Pawar of corruption in the state’s irrigation scheme during previous rallies.

Even worse, the RSS has publicly questioned the BJP’s decision to collaborate with Ajit Pawar. An article in the RSS-affiliated magazine “Organiser” criticised the BJP’s action, labelling it “unnecessary politicking.” It claimed that the value of the BJP brand has decreased with the inclusion of Ajit Pawar’s NCP in the NDA.

Maharashtra is a shining example of needless political posturing and preventable maneuvering. Even though the BJP and split SS (Shiv Sena) had a clear majority, the NCP section led by Ajit Pawar joined the BJP. According to RSS lifelong member Ratan Sharda, “Shard Pawar would have faded away in two-three years as NCP would have lost energy with infighting between cousins.”
“Why was this foolish action done? Supporters of the BJP were hurt because they had endured persecution for years as they battled against this Congress doctrine. BJP instantly decreased the value of its brand. He continued, “After years of fighting to become the dominant political party in Maharashtra, it became just another political party with no distinction.
