More than fifty police officers were hurt in the altercation, and a number of administrative staff , city employees, and journalists were also injured. In an effort to quell the rioting, Haldwani has implemented shoot-at-sight orders and has shut down internet services.

“Actions against encroachments were conducted in numerous locations in Haldwani after the directives of the High Court. To eradicate unlawful encroachments on other government lands, a task team has been established at the district level, the spokesperson stated.

According to the official, all relevant parties were notified, due procedure was adhered to, and a hearing committee was established to guarantee an impartial assessment of every case. But others even turned to violence in an effort to break through the doors of the High Court.
Some people, including women, were so incensed that they rushed to the streets in protest as the bulldozer leveled the buildings. The situation quickly became worse when they smashed over barricades and got into altercations with the police. After that, crowds threw stones at police officers, public servants, and media, inflicting injuries and destruction of property. A security van and more than 20 motorbikes were set on fire. 

The DM underlined that the police used the utmost caution and didn’t hurt or provoke anyone. The police station was the only target for water cannons and tear gas. Preserving public safety and avoiding the loss of life or property was the main objective. Authorities are diligently attempting to restore order in Haldwani, despite the fact that the situation is still tense. The drive to demolish unlawful encroachments will go on as part of the continuous endeavors to protect government properties throughout the area.
