13 apprehended for involvement in Mira Road clash in Mumbai ahead of Ram temple ceremony, Fadnavis says there’s ‘zero tolerance’

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized a "zero tolerance" policy against anyone attempting to disrupt peace and order in the state.

A brawl broke out in Mumbai’s suburb of Mira Road, resulting in the arrest of thirteen people. A car rally honoring the opening of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, was the scene of the altercation. Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, stressed the state’s “zero tolerance” attitude for anyone attempting to disturb peace and order.

During the rally in Naya Nagar, two groups got into a fight following a small altercation. In spite of initial worries, the authorities made it clear that the incident was a dispute between two groups rather than an instance of communal violence. Given the importance of the Ram Temple opening, the situation may have escalated, but the Mira Bhayandar – Vasai Virar (MBVV) police moved quickly to diffuse it.

Jayant Bajbal, DCP (Zone I) , asked people not to believe rumors and reminded the public that no communal flare- up had been recorded. Since then, the police have opened a comprehensive investigation into the incident, looking through CCTV material to find and detain any further suspects.

The Maharashtra government declared January 22 to be a state holiday, coinciding with the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of the Ram Temple at Ayodhya. The event involved increased security precautions, such as the deployment of commandos from the Anti-Terrorist Squad.

Following the altercation , Fadnavis ordered the Police Commissioner to respond promptly, which led to the apprehension of thirteen individuals. Additionally, he kept in regular contact with the Mira Bhayander Commissioner of Police until the early hours of the day after the incident, making sure that the guilty parties faced severe consequences.

“Police were told to prosecute the offenders with the utmost severity. To date, 13 people have been taken into custody, and a thorough examination of CCTV material is being done to find and detain further suspects, according to Fadavis.

“There will be zero tolerance against anyone who tries to take the law in their own hands and attempts to disturb the law  & order situation in  Maharashtras ,”  Devendra Fadnavis stated.
